Notes from the President and CE0 - October 2010

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, step right up to your television to witness the greatest show on earth: the new Fall Season on WTVP!

I’ve always wanted to be a circus barker complete with jodhpurs, top hat and whip, so I could introduce some of the greatest acts around. It’s not likely to happen, but I am just as pleased to tell you about some of the best programs on television as we kick off our new season of outstanding Public Television, so....

Watch for great mysteries as outstanding British actor Kenneth Branagh reprises his role as Swedish cop Kurt Wallander on Masterpiece Mystery!.

Thrill to outstanding musical performances from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Stop for a think with new episodes of Frontline and Independent Lens.

Have your mind changed about hating Shakespeare when Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean Luc Picard) stars in an exceptionally-staged MacBeth.

But wait, there’s more!

Science gets the PBS treatment with the new children’s series, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, and for the adults we have an exceptional new season of NOVA.

For all you fans of the Big Top, I draw your attention to the center ring…Circus is coming to WTVP! We’ll bring it all—the excitement, the color, the daring—right to your living room with special previews this month and the spectacular main event in November. (We have removed the smell of elephants and peanuts are optional.)

Friends, however, are not optional. Friends are a mandatory component of life, and WTVP is blessed to have an exceptional group of them in Pekin. From all of us at Channel 47, a special thanks to the Pekin Friends of 47 who recently contributed $5,000 for the purchase of new office computers and software upgrades for the station. The money was raised at their annual spring Bowlathon, and it allowed us to replace computers and monitors that were first put into service in 2002. If you’d like information about getting involved with the Pekin Friends or the Galesburg Area Friends of 47, or if you would like to start a WTVP friends group in your area, give us a call at (309) 677-4747. It’s going to be a great new season. Thank you for making it possible.
