… jazz! Be part of our live studio audience as WTVP tapes the
exciting new local music series "Jazz from Studio 47." Hosted and
produced by Ed Kaizer, the series will feature acts and
performers from around the globe, and you are invited to be part
of the audience.
Two half-hour
programs will be taped four Tuesdays in July beginning on the
10th in
the WTVP Studio at 101 State Street, Peoria. Seating begins at 6
p.m. with sound checks beginning shortly thereafter. The studio
will be set café style with coffee and soft drinks provided.
Jazz it up with your own snacks and libations. Tickets, $10 per
couple or FREE for WTVP Members, are available through the
station, (309) 677-4747. Space is limited and available on a
first-come, first-served basis.
Matt plays with The XRAYMEN who are a high energy band performing the greatest party songs of the '50s and '60s with the authentic style and attitude of the originals. Another group is the New Prairie Ramblers, Matt (Ice Man) plays bass and tambourine with his foot and sings.
Dr. Edward Kaizer, Professor of Music, Bradley University, is Artistic Consultant to the Prep School. An accomplished classical pianist and composer, Dr. Kaizer began serious study, performance, and composition of jazz in 1979.
Since 1991 David has toured as a trumpet soloist with Ray Charles, terrorizing over 40 different countries and 45 of the states. David splits the rest of his time between San Diego, CA, where he plays with several jazz and
Brazilian groups, and Central Illinois, where he imposes his presence on the Central Illinois Jazz Society, as well as making unscheduled appearances at local jazz hangouts such as Panache, One World, Martini's, and any other place that will tolerate him for brief periods. Occasionally he will book a gig with his own band, the David Hoffman Quintet. David has not shaved since 1973.
Dr. Edward Kaizer, Professor of Music, Bradley University, is Artistic Consultant to the Prep School. An accomplished classical pianist and composer, Dr. Kaizer began serious study, performance, and composition of jazz in 1979.
Dr. Todd Kelly is Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz Ensembles at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Dr. Kelly teaches trumpet, directs the Bradley Jazz Ensembles and Jazz Combos, teaches Jazz Improvisation, Secondary Music Methods, and serves as the advisor for the Music Business program. Under his direction, the jazz program has shown tremendous growth and now includes two big bands, two combos, and a year - long Jazz Improvisation sequence. The Bradley Jazz Ensemble has performed with such jazz artists as Mike Vax, Mike Lee, Matt Wilson, Rachael Lee, Allen Vizzutti, Ron Jones, and Tom Garling. During the summer of 2003, the group performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, and they will return in the summer of 2006. Dr. Kelly holds the Doctor of Arts degree in trumpet performance from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. While at Ball State, he was the Assistant Director of the Jazz Studies program, directing the Studio Jazz Ensemble, coordinating the Jazz Combo program, and coordinating the “Dimensions in Jazz” high school jazz festival. He also served as Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet and Jazz at Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. Kelly received a Bachelor of Music Education degree with high honors from the University of Montana, and a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. His principal teachers include Lido Vizzutti, Dr. Thomas Cook, William Pfund, Paul Everett, and Bill Adam. He spent three years working as a musician for Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines. From 1992 - 1994, Kelly taught grades 6 - 12 bands in Gilcrest, Colorado. Dr. Kelly maintains a busy performing schedule in the Central Illinois area as a member of the Todd Kelly Jazz Quintet and as a freelance jazz and classical musician. He is the musical director of the Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra, a big band comprised of seventeen of the finest musicians from the central Illinois area. He has backed such performers as Wayne Newton, Jerry Lewis, Charo, the Fifth Dimension and Lesley Gore. His professional memberships include the International Association of Jazz Educators (for which he served as the Illinois Unit Secretary), the International Trumpet Guild, Music Educators National Conference, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is also listed in “Who’s Who Among American Teachers.” In the spring of 2004, he was given the Bradley Parents Association’s “Award of Excellence” for outstanding service to students. He is in demand throughout the Midwest as a clinician, adjudicator, and guest artist. Last spring, Dr. Kelly was featured as a guest soloist and clinician with the Ashland University Jazz Ensemble, the Galesburg High School Jazz Band, and the Kankakee High School Jazz Band. Dr. Kelly was the conductor of the 2003 Illinois All-State Jazz Band. Recently, he has been touring throughout the United States with Indian tabla artist Sandip Burman. Todd Kelly is an artist/clinician for Conn/Selmer in Elkhart, Indiana.

Preston Jackson, a leading award winning visual artist and educator, is also one of Peoria's best Jazz musicians as a guitarist. He can be found with his group - Preston Jackson and Friends - playing with many of the local Jazz musicians.
Tim went to IVC high school and has played with every important jazz musician in the area including Joe Metzka, Kevin Hart, the 'Heatersons' and 'Scotty and the Ligonaires.'
A professional musician since 1972, Dave performs in the Quad-Cities, Galesburg, and Peoria area. Musical styles covered include jazz, big band, standards, symphony, and musicals. Dave has shared the stage with internationally known artists jazz clarinetist Buddy DeFranco, singer/actress Shirley Jones, and comedian George Burns. Dave currently performs with the Bill Hardesty Orchestra, the Stardusters Orchestra, and the Ed Kaizer Quartet.

John Cooper is a jazz artist and composer, who makes his home in Macomb, Illinois. John teaches at Western Illinois University and is the Director of Jazz Studies. He is also a member of the Dale Hopper Faculty Jazz Sextet. John has performed with many artists, including Clark Terry, Jon Faddis, Alan Vizutti, James Moody, Slide Hampton and others. John Cooper obtained a Masters degree in Music Composition from Bowling Green State University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from New York University.
Jennifer received her undergraduate degree at Western Illinois University in Jazz Studies. While at WIU, she was the pianist in the Jazz Studio Orchestra, pianist in the Jazz Combo Program, and bari sax player and pianist in the Jazz Band. While at WIU, she played clarinet in the Concert Band and Pep Band and also sang in the University Singers, Concert Choir, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble. She was also a member of the Westernettes Danceline. Jennifer is currently the assistant director/ choreographer/ arranger of the Monmouth-Roseville Showchoir 'Velocity'. Jennifer has performed with many great artists that include Josh Groban, Duffy Jackson, Jon Faddis, Dr. John Copper, Chris Collins, Dave Hoffman, John Mose, Ed Kaizer, and the Caterpillar Big Band.
