WTVP’S “At Issue” to Launch its 21st Season in September
Tuesday, August 21st, 2008
WTVP’s public affairs series At Issue will launch its 21st season in September with a look at the 1908 Springfield riots and the birth of the NAACP.
One hundred years ago, the race riots in Springfield in August 1908 became the catalyst for the formation of the NAACP in January 1909.
At Issue will launch its new fall season on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 8:30 p.m. with a discussion on why this particular riot—in the hometown of Abraham Lincoln, the man who freed the slaves—was instrumental in the birth of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
The half-hour program, hosted by H Wayne Wilson, will be repeated Sunday, Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m. Guests include Kathryn Harris, Library Services Director, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library; Don Jackson, State and Local President, NAACP; and Ronald Swan, Illinois State University Police Chief.
