"Our Mr. Lincoln" Coming to Illinois State University

The celebration of President Abraham Lincolnís bicentennial year continues with a look at "Our Mr. Lincoln." A showcase for the many local productions telling the story of Lincolnís history in Illinois, the event will feature local and national program excerpts as well as a question and answer session with noted Lincoln scholars Mark Plummer and Roger Bridges. The event will be held Tuesday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Illinois State Universityís Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main in Normal. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Free parking is available in the lot next to the Alumni Center.
The evening begins with a reception, which includes a performance by the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band. The event continues with excerpts from:
Lincolnís Illinois Scrapbook, Lincoln and Douglas at Galesburg: The Great Debate, and various Illinois Adventure episodes from WTVP;
Lincoln: Prelude to the Presidency from WILL; and
Looking for Lincoln, a special, hosted by historian Henry Louis Gates Jr., produced for PBS and made possible by underwriting from State Farm.
A collaboration between WTVP 47, Illinois State University and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission of McLean County, this event is designed to explore the wealth of local programming that illuminates Mr. Lincolnís time in Illinois and its long-term impact on our nation and the world.
