WTVP’s “Ready To Learn Program” Awarded A $3,000 Grant From the Community Foundation of Central Illinois
Thursday, May 28th, 2009
WTVP has been awarded a $3,000 grant by the Community Foundation of Central Illinois to purchase books to give to Central Illinois children as part of its Ready To Learn Program. With the donation, the station has been able to order 1,250 new books to give to young people to encourage a love of reading and an enthusiasm for learning.
During the past 12˝ years, WTVP 47 has truly reached out to the community with tips, techniques, and many new ideas on how to use public television as a springboard to learning—to helping children develop the reading and writing skills so necessary for success in school and in life. Yet when our national grant was phased out on Sept. 30, 2008, WTVP was left without funds to purchase books—a centerpiece of the project—and the entire program was in jeopardy.
Yet now—thanks to the generosity of our community—WTVP has been able to renew its commitment to educate, engage, and inspire young people throughout Central Illinois! The project has been made possible by a grant from the Literacy Fund and the RLI Insurance Company NonEndowed Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Illinois.
From classic stories to animal adventures and from mysteries to picture books, young people will now have many new friends—and many new opportunities—to enjoy never-ending adventures!
