–Using the Latest Scientific Research to Achieve Success
in Our Lives–
Most people believe that once they land that long-awaited promotion, make more money, get their kids
into the right schools, lose a few pounds or find a meaningful relationship, then they’ll be happy. But based on
recent discoveries in the fields of positive psychology and neuroscience, positive psychology expert Shawn Achor
demonstrates that that formula for happiness is wrong. In fact, it’s backwards. It turns out, happiness actually fuels
success, not the other way around The Happiness Advantage with Shawn Anchor airs Sunday, August 19th from
3-4:30 pm on WTVP-HD.
In THE HAPPINESS ADVANTAGE, Achor reveals that when we become more positive, our brain
becomes more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient and productive. The result is an advantage over our
entire lifetime — improving success at work, creating better health, better relationships with our loved ones and
a happier home.
Achor also shows how happiness is a choice. We can actually reprogram our brains to become more positive
— transforming not just our own lives, but having a positive ripple effect on the lives of all of those around us.
Achor stresses that this isn’t a message based on a feel-good philosophy or wishful thinking; it’s fueled
by decades of scientific research on how our brains work most effectively. Achor himself spent more than a decade at Harvard
University where he received undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as researched and lectured on the topic of positive
psychology. At Harvard, he won numerous distinguished teaching awards for his work. In 2006, he was Head Teaching Fellow for
the famed “Happiness Course,” the most popular course at Harvard at the time. In 2007, Achor founded Good Think, Inc. to
share his research with a wider population. When the global economy collapsed in 2008, Achor was immediately called in as an
expert by the world’s largest banks to help restart forward progress. Most recently, his research was featured as the cover
story for the January 2012 edition of the Harvard Business Review.
Achor is passionate about helping people reap the benefits of The Happiness Advantage. In addition
to revealing the background and research behind The Happiness Advantage, Achor tells us exactly what we can do
to “turn this information into transformation.” He shows us five techniques that everyone can incorporate to raise their level
of happiness — all of which are extraordinarily simple and take just a few minutes a day to complete.
An inspirational presenter, Achor has spoken to audiences in 49 countries around the world. According to a Boston
Globe reporter who attended one of his lectures, “Shawn Achor is funny, self-deprecating and devastating to my notions of what
his field is all about — I’m butter to his knife.”
