Linda Miller - More than 25 Years
Linda Miller, Vice President of Programming for WTVP, will be retiring on February 1, 2014.
From the Vice President of Programming...
February will be my last Guide as WTVP chief Programmer and editor of the monthly
Program Guide – on February 1 I will be retiring to, among other things, spend more time with
grandchildren who I don’t see nearly enough because they live so far away and I’m always working.
It has been my privilege to serve WTVP as Programmer for the last seventeen years,
and before that as station Public Information Director. It has been a challenge to create program
schedules, but also a lot of fun – like a multi-dimensional puzzle that is constantly in motion.
The pace has picked up considerably over the years, as we’ve gone from one analog channel of programs
from one satellite, to three distinct 24-hour digital channels, in multiple formats, from multiple
satellites and fiber links, in both high definition and standard definition.
But the bottom line for me has always been about the programs and what audiences want.
Choosing those programs and determining the wants and needs of viewers has been the challenge, a
constant process of discovery and analysis. Audiences, even across central Illinois, have different
interests and sensibilities and requirements, and my aim has been to take the pulse of local communities
and work to meet their programming needs.
This is an exciting time to be involved in Public Broadcasting – the future offers
the potential for new ideas and alliances that will spur growth and create opportunities for
content by and about you the viewer. My colleagues can make this happen, but only with your continued
support and encouragement. It’s the people who make this operation what it is – the technology is
the delivery mechanism, but it’s the human spirit that gives the programming life.
Thank you for your support and kind words over the years – it has made all the difference
in the world.
