CAT on the Court
When the Game Was Diesel Powered
WTVP will premiere this new special Thursday, Apr. 3rd from 7-8 p.m. during a live broadcast on WTVP-HD 47.1 from the Caterpillar Visitors Center in downtown Peoria.
Before the NBA came to prominence, there were the Caterpillar Diesels/Peoria Cats – one
of the most dominant teams in the National Industrial Basketball League. They won Olympic gold,
celebrated an AAU Championship in New York's famed Madison Square Garden and dominated competition
from around the world. And in the morning, they went to work on the Caterpillar line.
When the Game Was Diesel Powered gives viewers a fascinating
look at these people who built Caterpillar's yellow iron by day, and were some of the world’s
greatest basketball players by night. WTVP will premiere this new special Thursday, Apr. 3 from
7-8 p.m. during a live broadcast from the Caterpillar Visitors Center in downtown Peoria.
Produced by Caterpillar, the special is the centerpiece of a new exhibit currently
on display at the Caterpillar Visitor’s Center. Entitled “Yellow Blood Bleeds Gold”, the exhibit
includes Frank McCabe’s Olympic gold medal and U.S. Olympic jersey, and never-before-seen-by-the-public
personal memorabilia, photographs, game footage and more from the players themselves. The exhibit
runs through June 30th.
When the Game Was Diesel Powered will encore Wednesday, Apr. 30th
at 7:30pm on WTVP-WORLD 47.2.
