What happens when a gruff physician flees big-city life to work as a general doctor in a sleepy, picturesque English coastline town? The cultures clash and the sparks fly in the sixth season of the American Public Television-distributed series DOC MARTIN, a catchy comedy mixing elements of classic British sitcoms with sharp medical drama and a quirky, lovable cast of characters. DOC MARTIN Season VI—with all-new episodes—begins on WTVP-HD 47.1 Saturday, April 5th with back-to-back episodes beginning at 9:00pm and 10:00pm.

At the end of the last season, the couple's baby boy, James Henry, was kidnapped by a well-meaning but deranged pharmacist named Mrs. Tishell. The nightmare brought the couple closer together and prompted a marriage proposal from the Doc to Louisa for a second time. As the new season gets under way, the town is buzzing with arrangements for the wedding of Martin and Louisa. Will they finally tie the knot, or will the villagers have to put the confetti back in the box again?

As the series unfolds, Aunt Ruth moves into the village, Burt cooks up another money-making scheme and Morwenna tries Internet dating with surprising results. The Doc continues to deal with the strange and quirky personalities of Portwenn, and attempts to adjust to his new life with Louisa and baby James. But, despite his best efforts, the Doc continues to find trouble. He and Louisa host a disastrous dinner party, the new nanny walks out, and later, the Doc attends a dreadful playgroup for James Henry. Plus, his crippling blood phobia is back.

New cast members Annabelle Apsion (the temporary pharmacist), Felix Scott (baby James Henry's nanny), and Jennifer Cardew (Bert Large's love interest) join the veteran cast for another exciting season of life in Portwenn.

A humorous, hearty glimpse into the culture clash between big-city and small-country living, the sixth installment of DOC MARTIN is sure to have viewers on the edge of their seats.

DOC MARTIN Season VI includes eight episodes. They will air Saturdays at 9 and 10 p.m. April 5, 12 and 19 and May 3. (Saturday, April 26 will be devoted to the WTVP Auction.*) WTVP will then begin an encore of the entire series. Seasons I and II will continue with back-to-back episodes each Saturday at 9 and 10 p.m. through the end of June. Once Season III starts, we will return to one episode each Saturday from 9:00-10:00pm.

* The WTVP Auction airs live Thursday, April 24th – Sunday, April 27th on WTVP-HD 47.1.

DOC MARTIN VI averaged 10.6 million viewers and a 37 percent share of the audience in England and peaked at 10.9 million when it last screened on ITV1 in 2011; the season six opener was watched by nearly 8 million English viewers and scored a 32 percent audience share. In the U.S., the series has grown in popularity since it first released in 2007 in three primary markets. Today, leading into the new season premiere, the DOC MARTIN series is appearing in nearly 70 markets, with an increase in prime time ratings in some markets as high as 4.0.

DOC MARTIN VI was acquired from Acorn Media Group by American Public Television for syndication to public television stations nationwide.
