Episode #2916 -
Water Company Buyout
Members of the Peoria CEO Council Water Infrastructure Objective Study Committee offer insight as to whether the city of Peoria should seriously consider the purchase of the water company as allowed every five years under the franchise agreement. The committee members found 86% of water systems are municipally owned, and conclude that city ownership would assure local control of rates, better competition with other towns in attracting business and a potential revenue stream for the city. This is dependent on the appraised asking price. The committee at this time is not recommending purchase of the water company, but is suggesting the city perform due diligence to determine if a purchase is a viable alternative.
