Don Mclean: American Troubadour is a behind-the-scenes look at one of America's greatest singer-songwriters. This special summarizes his forty-year plus career and features live performances of his best-known hits including "American Pie," "Vincent," "Crying" and "I Love You So." Don McLean: American Troubadour is produced and directed by four-time Emmy award winning Jim Brown whose work includes: Pete Seeger: The Power of Song, The Weavers: Wasn't That A Time, and A Vision Shared: Tribute to Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly.

Much of what became the folk-music revival of the late 1950s and early 1960s -- from which came Peter, Paul, and Mary, the Kingston Trio, and Bob Dylan, among others -- began in the late 1940s with a group called The Weavers. Made up of Lee Hays, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Hellerman, and Pete Seeger, The Weavers were part of a movement of socially conscious singers that began with Woody Guthrie (who, with Hays and Seeger, formed the Almanac Singers in the 1940s). This 1982 documentary captures a reunion performance at Carnegie Hall in the early 1980s of the now-aged Weavers, blending contemporary footage of the concert with background about the intemperate, intolerant times in which The Weavers first emerged. The film provides solid history of the McCarthy era, when The Weavers--riding high with a No. 1 hit in "Goodnight, Irene" -- found themselves blacklisted as suspected Communists.

Oscar Hammerstein - Out of My Dreams is a celebration of the most acclaimed lyricists and librettists of the 20th century, the man who worked in the theater for over 40 years, writing the lyrics for over a thousand songs and the books for 45 operettas and musicals. His legendary musicals include Rose Marie (1924), Show Boat (1927), Oklahoma (1943), Carousel (1945), South Pacific (1949), The King and I (1951) and The Sound of Music (1959). After working in the theater for over 20 years, Oscar Hammerstein teamed up with Richard Rodgers and their collaboration changed the American musical forever, transforming it from lighthearted entertainment to real life stories told by believable characters, often with an important theme or underlying message. Doc Martin stars Martin Clunes as the brash "Doc" Martin Ellingham who finds himself back home in a Cornish village after his illustrious medical career in London goes awry. The townspeople are not used to the doctor's blunt opinions and insensitive manners, often leading to mayhem in the town of Portwenn. Caroline Catz plays school teacher Louisa Glasson for whom Doc Martin finds it difficult to express his romantic feelings. In this particular episode, the mayhem takes a decidedly creepy turn.

In November 2007, James Taylor and Carole King, joined by the same Los Angeles band that played with James and Carole when they first appeared at the Troubadour in 1971, re-united for six shows to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Los Angeles club. James, Carole and the band who became The Section - Danny Kortchmar, Lee Sklar and Russ Kunkel - together performed a remarkable set of songs. Peter Asher, who was deeply involved in the original 1971 show,produced the recordings of the six-show reunion. Martyn Atkins directed the filming with a nimble crew to capture what has become a much-anticipated and historic program. The 2010 Carole King-James Taylor Troubadour Reunion Tour is becoming one of the biggest tours of the year. The program being presented by PBS is an entire concert from the extraordinary 2007 Troubadour Reunion that brought them all together again.

Much of what became the folk-music revival of the late 1950s and early 1960s -- from which came Peter, Paul, and Mary, the Kingston Trio, and Bob Dylan, among others -- began in the late 1940s with a group called The Weavers. Made up of Lee Hays, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Hellerman, and Pete Seeger, The Weavers were part of a movement of socially conscious singers that began with Woody Guthrie (who, with Hays and Seeger, formed the Almanac Singers in the 1940s). This 1982 documentary captures a reunion performance at Carnegie Hall in the early 1980s of the now-aged Weavers, blending contemporary footage of the concert with background about the intemperate, intolerant times in which The Weavers first emerged. The film provides solid history of the McCarthy era, when The Weavers--riding high with a No. 1 hit in "Goodnight, Irene" -- found themselves blacklisted as suspected Communists.
