GET SET FOR DIGITAL
The countdown to Feb.
17, 2009, has begun …
The TV industry is less than six months away from the
groundbreaking switch from analog to digital television—a
change that will offer viewers clearer pictures, better
sound, and more programming choices than ever before.
Yet this change may also affect how you receive TV—and may
require you to take some steps to make sure that you don’t
miss a moment of your favorite TV shows.
TV sets that are connected to a cable, satellite, or
telephone company television service should not be affected
by the transition. But analog sets that receive free
broadcast TV signals through an antenna—like “rabbit
ears”—will need to be upgraded to continue receiving
service.
You can upgrade to DTV by following one of these three steps
by Feb. 17:
-
Purchase a converter box for each
over-the-air television set in your home. (The federal
government is offering $40 coupons to help pay for this
converter box, which costs between $40 and $70. Check
out WTVP’s website—www.wtvp.org—or call 1-888-DTV-2009
for more information);
-
Purchase a new television set with a
built-in digital tuner; or
-
Subscribe to cable or satellite or
another pay TV service.

Communications Commission (FCC) DTV website or the

Association (NAB) DTV website.
