Sixteen Local Grade Schoolers Win WTVP’s PBS KIDS GO! Writing Contest WTVP announces 12 Winners and 4 Honorable Mentions

Peoria, IL—Judging is complete and the results are in…WTVP is pleased to announce 12 winners and four Honorable Mentions in the WTVP PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest.

First Place Winners

  • Kindergarten:
    John Kroll from Pekin for “Around the World”
     
  • First Grade:
    Dev Shroff from Oakland Elementary School in Bloomington for “Golden Learns to Swim”
     
  • Second Grade:
    Esther Newton from Peoria for “The Launching Little Bug”
     
  • Third Grade:

  • Second Grade:
    Mary Smith from Peoria for “Mermaids to the Rescue”
     
  • Third Grade:
    Gracie Kizer from St. Joseph Catholic School in Pekin for “The Magical Rainbow & Amberly Make the World Happy”

The first-place stories have advanced on to the national competition where they are competing against winners from other PBS stations across the country for fabulous prizes including tablet computers and e-readers. National winners will be announced this summer.

These local winners will be honored at an event in the WTVP Studio where they will receive prizes and have the chance to share their stories with a live audience. Their stories, along with the Honorable Mentions, will also be featured on the WTVP Website for the world to enjoy. All entrants will receive a Certificate of Achievement.
