Thanksgiving is a time of deep tradition and warm gatherings. As you prepare your homes and hearts for the celebration, we hope these favorite traditions, memories and foods recounted by WTVP staff will help spark your own gratitude.

FAVORITE THANKSGIVING MEMORIES...

"Waking up in my grandma's house to the smell of the Thanksgiving food already in the oven."
- BRYAN WOLFORD

"Dinner at my grandparent's house with all the relatives there. Especially Rose, who always brought the most 'traditional' Midwest Jello salad dishes."
- TODD PILON

"Long ago my grandparents uncovered a frozen turkey that was close to a year old. They prepared it for Sunday dinner a fortnight before Thanksgiving. After savoring it, we discussed what to have during the upcoming Thanksgiving festivities. Many options were considered by ultimately my mother's suggestion of lasagna prevailed. The dish was joyously received that Thanksgiving. With my wise grandfather's blessing, our family has henceforth served lasagna instead of turkey at each Thanksgiving."
- BRETT WAGNER

"My favorite Thanksgiving memories involve gathering around my grandparents' table in my dad's hometown. Whatever was on tv would dissolve into 'snow' as the electric knife cut the turkey and called us to dinner. After we ate, we cuddled up on the couch to watch The Sound of Music. My beloved grandparents now celebrate a more bountiful Thanksgiving in heaven, but our family is still giving thanks for our many blessings on this beautiful rock."
- JENNIFER WIELAND

FAVORITE THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS...

"My grandma would always cover the kids' table with a white tablecloth and give us markers to draw on it.
She used the same tablecloth every year and we loved finding notes and drawings from years past."
- AMY WALTERS

"Passing out from eating so much!"
- TODD PILON

"No matter how much my grandma tried, my Uncle Dale would always end up with a bone in his turkey.
She would try to make sure his serving was bone-free but a small one would always make its way through. Everyone always had a good laugh over it."
- BRYAN WOLFORD

FAVORITE THANKSGIVING RECIPES...

"My favorite Thanksgiving food is my wife's Nashville hot turkey."
- CHRISTIAN SAUDER

"Roadkill pumpkin pie."
- DON STEDMAN

"A favorite food (c'mon, I have many) would be something called Cape Cod Cranberry Salad.
The recipe has been passed down through generations."
- DENNIS SHANNON

"Cranberry sauce."
- BRETT WAGNER

"To be honest, I don't really care for turkey, but I love Holiday Onions - the little pearls swimming in butter and cream!
I always go back for seconds."
- AMY WALTERS

"I always like to make my pumpkin pie with half cream cheese and half evaporated milk.
I think it makes it less sweet and denser - a little bit like cheesecake."
- JED KLABUNDE

"Mom's Southern Peach Yam Bake."
- TODD PILON

"Besides the turkey, I love the marshmallow covered sweet potatoes."
- BRYAN WOLFORD
