Memorial Day Celebrations | May 2022

For over 30 years, the National Memorial Day Concert has gathered Americans together to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have given their lives for our country. This year’s broadcast features co-hosts Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna, actress Mary McCormack, conductor Jack Everly and the National Symphony Orchestra, and a host of musical guests. The concert honors the legacy of General Colin L. Powell, pays tribute to those who lost their lives in Vietnam, and memorializes soldiers who died in recent conflicts.
The Concert honors our country’s veterans, service men and women and military families.
Peoria City Council member Sid Ruckriegel leads a regional tribute to those who have given their lives for our country. This WTVP production includes a color guard, musical tributes and a 21-gun salute.
Lt. Col. M. L. “Buzz” Hefti (USMC Ret.) serves on the board of TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), a national organization that helps those grieving the death of a military loved one. In this local WTVP production, Phil Luciano talks to Hefti about his work, his service in Vietnam and his time working with Congress and private industry.
