DETERMINED: FIGHTING ALZHEIMER'S – NEW
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6, 8 PM

Of the top ten leading causes of death, Alzheimer's disease is the only one without a cure. This episode is an intimate portrait of three women with mothers afflicted by the disease. Each woman is determined to contribute to a cure by enrolling in groundbreaking trials at the University of Wisconsin. NOVA's intimate access to all their stories reveals that Alzheimer's is a disease battled on many fronts: in a laboratory, in a home, in a marriage, in a mind, and in one's hopes and fears about the future.

CAN WE COOL THE PLANET?
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27, 8 PM

The world's average temperature has increased by one-degree Celsius in just the past 100 years. Extreme weather and rising seas are already causing global unrest, and many scientists believe that if we cannot curb planetary warming, it could pose an existential threat to human civilization as we know it. This is the controversial landscape of geoengineering, the effort to build controls for Earth's thermostat. NOVA joins scientists and skeptics alike to examine technologies that could help us combat a looming threat.
