POV
The Gas Station Attendant
Monday, August 3, 2026, 9pm

As a boy, HN Shantha Murthy ran away from home to escape the poverty of his Indian village. He travelled the country for work, hoping that one day his life would change. Karla Murthy's film also explores her own identity as a first-generation American. What emerges is an intimate love letter--a meditation on a complicated father-daughter bond and a poignant tribute to the immigrant working class.

The Dreamers and I
Tuesday, August 4, 2026, 9pm

Set in a Silicon Valley "hacker house," THE DREAMERS AND I explores how innovative and disruptive ideas are incubated, nurtured and all too often shattered. The film follows three immigrant entrepreneurs trying to make their high-tech dreams come true: Carlos de la Lama-Noriega (Madrid), who started a hacker house that offers an affordable, welcoming live/work community to migrants like material scientist Habibe Turfan (Istanbul) and A.I. creator Lucas Gonzalez (Seville). Inspired by how similar the battle to start a business and produce a documentary can be, filmmaker Kenji Yamamoto becomes the story's fourth character, joining Carlos, Habibe and Lucas in their Sisyphean struggles of self-doubt, financial ruin and endangered marriages. At first, Kenji thought his characters' failures or successes would define the film but discovered that it is about something deeper: what happens when dreams and reality collide.

MASTERPIECE
The Great Escaper
Thursday, August 6, 2026, 9pm

THE GREAT ESCAPER tells the true story of Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) who made global headlines in the summer of 2014. He had staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades at the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary. The late, two-time Oscar® winner Glenda Jackson also stars as Bernie’s devoted wife, Irene. While Bernie is on his trip to Normandy, Irene recalls their younger days and falling in love during World War II. Bernie’s story captured the imagination of the world as he embodied the defiant, “can do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing. But of course, it wasn’t the whole story. It was an inspirational but sanitized retelling of one man’s need to come to terms with the lasting trauma of war.
