Wendy Kirbey does, and when her hometown of Albany, Oregon, needed an economic boost, she had an idea — build a carousel from scratch using old-world craftsmanship. See what happens when a dedicated group of volunteers comes together to design, hand carve and paint all the animals needed to complete what many believe will be one of the most beautiful carousels ever created.

BOBLO BOATS: A DETROIT FERRY TALE

When they sounded their whistles, every Detroit kid knew it heralded the magic of ferrying over to nearby Boblo Island Amusement Park. After 85 years of operation, these two sister steamships — the oldest in America — awaken from a deep slumber to find a devoted team of enthusiasts who have set out to rescue them from their deteriorating state. SS Columbia has been whisked away to New York while Claire's fate rests in the hands of an unlikely band of heroes: a doctor, a psychic and an amusement park fanatic.

TROLLEY PARK: MIDWAY MEMORIES

Trolley Park: Midway Memories visits one of the oldest trolley parks in the country. These parks helped usher in the golden age of amusement parks. In the early 1900s, there were more than a thousand trolley parks. Now only a dozen remain. Hear from residents who have enjoyed the park past and present, the crew that keeps the historic rides going and the volunteers who help preserve the park.

DREAMS OF HOPE
SUNDAY, JULY 30, 6 PM

Dreams of Hope tells the story of a historic concert at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, more than 50 years after a hate crime killed four African American girls. Conducted by Dr. Henry Panion III, the concert performance features musical instruments that serve as symbols of hope - violins restored from Holocaust concentration camps. The documentary incorporates behind-the-scenes interviews reflecting on the event's purpose: to celebrate the resilience of those who have faced hate, discrimination and racism.
