School Counselor and Family Liaison at Peoria Public Schools District 150, Michaura Pittman is a dedicated and passionate advocate for youth and families. She fosters student success by bridging the gap between schools and families. Her approach to counseling emphasizes the importance of educational equity, social-emotional learning, and community collaboration. Courtney Lee describes Pittman as “an active advocate for the needs of others, especially those who do not know their educational rights.”
Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Community Care & Counseling: Marriage & Family Counseling, Pittman is also a National Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors. She is a member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the Illinois School Counselor Association (ISCA) and Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society (CSI).

Pittman observes that a great leader, “…fosters a collaborative environment built on trust and mutual respect. Compassion, honesty, and integrity are foundational qualities that guide their actions and decisions.”
Pittman’s passion for nurturing and guiding has remained consistent from her childhood dreams to become an OB/GYN into the career and mission she has realized as a school counselor. She shares, “…Watching students grow, overcome obstacles, and realize their potential is deeply rewarding. By investing in their personal growth and future success, I believe we are also investing in stronger communities and a brighter world. My work allows me to make a lasting impact by preparing the next generation to lead with integrity, resilience, and purpose.”

Pittman is a devoted wife and the proud mother of two sons, MaKai and Cruz, who inspire her to lead with compassion and purpose. She expresses her biggest challenge as “coping with the loss of close family members…Balancing the emotional weight of personal loss with my responsibilities as a wife, mother, and counselor has tested my strength and resilience…Through it all, I’ve learned to honor my emotions while remaining present for my family and the students and families I support.”
Michaura also serves as a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Illinois, influencing the lives of young people through mentorship. Pittman is an active and engaged member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she participates in service initiatives that uplift and empower communities.
