Claudia Plumer | Wyoming, Illinois
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria – Pediatric Resource Center

Claudia Plumer uses science to shed light on the truth; bringing crime to justice. As a pediatric nurse practitioner, Plumer has worked at the Pediatric Resource Center for five years and specializes in providing medical evaluations for children and adolescents who are victims or suspected victims of sexual abuse. Her job actually tracks very closely with her childhood dream to be a scientist…and Nancy Drew.
Plumer is a nationally board-certified, Primary Care Certified, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. “Claudia's expertise in this field helps children and families in what could be their most vulnerable time in their lives,” writes Amanda Thomison from the Pediatric Resource Center. “Claudia's approach to this specialized medical care is with the utmost sensitivity and empathy. She provides comfort to children and families that is unmatched.”

Outside of her career participating in the rescue of abused children, Plumer gives back to her community as the vice president of the Freedom House Board of Directors, Stark County Board of Health, and Wyoming Public Library District Board of Trustees. She is also an active member of P.E.O. Chapter NL. She expresses that she is passionate about all the organizations that she gives her time to because “They all have one thing in common - providing resources and support to rural communities.”
A Little Love for Stark County:
“I may be biased, but Stark County is the best thing about central Illinois…I feel very fortunate to be able to raise my kids here. The sense of community is strong, and the school district is full of passionate and dedicated educators, staff and leaders. There is always something fun to do in Stark County, even if it takes a little creativity (which is often the fun part)!”
Plumer holds that a great leader “Supports and empowers others to grow and succeed. A great leader is also passionate, adaptable, and committed to lifelong learning.”
Plumer has been married to her husband, Jake, for 15 years. They live in Stark County with their four children. She enjoys cheering at Stark County Rebels games, growing things, reading, and being outside. After a stressful day at work, Plumer likes to pull on a pair of boots and work outside, whether that work is in the garden or cleaning the pig pens.

One of Claudia’s greatest challenges was balancing the roles of graduate student, full-time nurse, wife, and mom to four young kids. That time period required frequent reevaluation of expectations. “It wasn’t always pretty,” she observes, “but we did it!”
Words of Wisdom:
“Be yourself and do what you love. Celebrate the highs and make space for the lows – those will teach you the most.”
