Dr. Charlie Zimmerman | Metamora, Illinois

Principal, Metamora Township High School

Dr. Charlie Zimmerman

Shaped by a passion for education and a deep-rooted connection to the community, Dr. Charlie Zimmerman is the principal of Metamora Township High School (MTHS). Born and raised in Metamora, Zimmerman, “embodies the spirit of the Redbirds,” and was a student there himself. Dr. Zimmerman remembers that his childhood dreams shifted toward education as a result of the mentorship and guidance he received, first from his parents, and then reinforced by his teachers and coaches. His education at MTHS “profoundly influenced my path and fostered a deep appreciation for the role of educators in shaping young lives.”

As principal, Dr. Zimmerman believes that “great leadership is synonymous with servant leadership…working tirelessly for the greater good, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.” At MTHS, Dr. Zimmerman works toward that vision, creating a culture of excellence and helping students thrive, both academically and personally.

“Remember where you came from and the values instilled in you by your family and community. Hard work, dedication, and a strong work ethic will always pave the way for success…Never let fear or self-doubt hold you back. With unwavering determination and a positive mindset, anything is truly possible...Embrace the journey, cherish the memories, and never stop learning and growing.”

Family is central to Dr. Zimmerman’s life, as a husband of 12 years to his wife (and high school sweetheart), Amanda, and a father to Kinsley (10), Kennedy (8), Kaisley (6), and Kreed (2). Dr. Zimmerman raises his kids to know “the same values of hard work, resilience, and compassion that were instilled in me.”

Deeply rooted in his community with a drive to see it flourish, Dr. Zimmerman holds that, “dedicated teachers and supportive environments are crucial for the success of our nation…Educators are changing the trajectories of entire families, and their work has a ripple effect that benefits our entire community.”

Sean O’Laughlin, Metamora’s Superintendent, writes, “Through his roles as our high school principal, youth coach, community volunteer, and father of four, Dr. Zimmerman positively impacts our community through the many hats he wears. Dr. Zimmerman’s upbeat and positive personality is contagious and has brought a palpable energy to the halls of MTHS.”

A Place That Values Hard Work and Dedication:

“The part I love most about central Illinois is the strength of its community. People here genuinely care about each other and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Central Illinois is also a place where hard work and dedication are valued. This strong work ethic, combined with a genuine appreciation for each other's successes, creates a positive and encouraging atmosphere.”
