Melissa Entzminger has had a lifelong fascination with communication. She grew up near Chicago and moved to central Illinois after earning her master’s degree in communication. As she taught at Bradley University and Eureka College, she noticed a pattern: people did not struggle because they lacked intelligence or ambition, but because pressure disrupted their ability to access what they already knew. That insight became the foundation for her work.

Today, Melissa is the founder of Taking Your Stage, LLC, where she helps high-achieving leaders speak with confidence and clarity when the stakes are highest. She has coached CEOs, founders, nonprofit executives and public-sector professionals. She has developed practical tools that assess readiness and build confidence. “As a nonprofit professional, I’ve personally experienced her transformative influence,” writes Jada Hoerr, Chief Resource Officer of Midwest Food Bank. “Her coaching changed how I communicate, lead and represent my organization.”

“High-pressure moments don’t create leaders, they reveal them.”

Growing up, Melissa envisioned becoming an attorney. “I was drawn to the idea of standing up in a courtroom, making arguments that could change someone’s life. Even then, I understood the power of a voice that could hold a room.” But public speaking made her deeply uncomfortable. “I remember volunteering for a class presentation. Mid-way through, I became acutely aware of how exposed I felt standing there, but I finished anyway.” Melissa leaned into the discomfort, continuing to volunteer for speaking opportunities and paying attention to how preparation and mindset affected the experience. This taught her an important principle: confidence is built through action. “Some of the most shaping moments come when you feel uncomfortable but show up anyway.”

Melissa’s commitment to leadership extends beyond her business. She has served on the Rotary Club of Peoria’s board of directors and leads new, creative fundraising efforts. She also mentors children through the Trewyn Reading Program, helping them build confidence in this vital skill. She has also donated over 100 hours of free communication coaching to emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. Jada notes, “Her service reflects a steady pattern: she sees needs, steps in and helps people succeed.”

Melissa has made central Illinois her home, embracing favorite local gems like Wildlife Prairie Park. “I live in Dunlap with my boyfriend and our dog Lucy. Most evenings, you will find us out on a walk together.”
