Diamond Matthews | Peoria, IL
Supply and Logistics Specialist | United States Air Force

Committed to justice, equity and public service, Diamond Matthews is a Supply and Logistics Specialist for the United States Air Force. Through her work maintaining inventory and managing distribution, she ensures that all personnel in the 182nd Airlift Wing have the necessary gear to operate safely and effectively. She is also pursuing a PhD in Instructional Technology at Northern Illinois University.
As a child, Diamond pictured herself working in law enforcement. “Even at a young age, I was drawn to the idea of protecting others and serving my community. That early interest evolved into a lifelong commitment to public service, which continues to guide my career path and the roles I choose to pursue.”
Those roles touch a long list of civic groups and nonprofit organizations. Since 2015, Diamond has volunteered as an Election Judge with the Peoria Election Commission. She also serves as a CASA volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocates), representing children in foster care. Throughout the year, she volunteers with the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, assisting with events that promote civic engagement and leadership development. And Diamond proudly embodies Delta Sigma Theta’s emphasis on public service, social action and sisterhood.

Michaura Pittman describes Diamond as dedicated and selfless. “Through her unwavering commitment to service, compassion and leadership, Diamond sets a powerful example of what it means to serve both nation and community with heart and purpose.”
Diamond attributes her leadership skills and service to her parents. “As the middle child of five children, I grew up in a close-knit household that often served as a hub for anyone in need, whether they were seeking food, clothing or simply a safe place to lay their head.” Despite the challenges of raising five kids on one income and battling ongoing health issues, her parents remained resilient and selfless. “These experiences showed me early on what perseverance truly looks like and reinforced the belief that, regardless of the challenges you face, success is still attainable through hard work, faith and determination.”
“Embracing discomfort has allowed me to build confidence, develop resilience and discover opportunities that ultimately shaped my personal, academic and professional journey.”

Diamond has also learned to lean into discomfort. Her anxiety with public speaking often silenced her when she had valuable ideas to contribute. “Over time, I realized that my voice mattered. By intentionally placing myself in situations that required speaking up through school, professional roles and community involvement, I gradually built confidence and resilience.”
When she has free time, Diamond enjoys connecting with nature at Sand Ridge State Forest. She also stays busy as a proud aunt to five nephews and a dog mom to her Chihuahua, Blue. “Family has always been a central part of my life.”
