Bill Sullivan | Dunlap, IL
Captain/Paramedic | City of Peoria

With a deep commitment to his lifelong home, Bill Sullivan is a Captain of the Peoria Fire Department. Bill’s wife Stephanie commends his care for people in the community. “Bill continually shows his dedication to this city's welfare by caring for its residents in their most significant times of need. Whether it's a car accident, house fire or a life-threatening medical call, Bill answers and leads his crew at the scene to provide the best care to those in need.”
For as long as he can remember, Bill has wanted to be a firefighter. “I have always admired the fire service. I was lucky to realize my calling at such a young age.” He graduated from Dunlap High School in 2004 and pursued a degree in fire science at Illinois Central College. In 2008, Bill became an EMT paramedic and joined the Pekin Fire Department the following year. He’s been a member of the Peoria Fire Department since 2011.
“Never give up. Be authentic and empathetic.”
A more recent interest for Bill is property rehabilitation and restoration. In 2015, he launched WS Investments LLC and Whisky City Architectural Salvage through which he acquires and renovates properties and salvages unique architectural pieces for resale. “Through this work, I am able to contribute to the revitalization and continued growth of the community that has given me so much.”

With his limited free time, Bill volunteers with the Boys & Girls Club of Peoria, as well as serving with the Dunlap Recreational Association and as a JFL coach for Dunlap. Stephanie notes, “It is not uncommon for many parents to request him to coach, as he is a great teacher to the kids, displays good sportsmanship and keeps playtime equitable for all kids.”
Bill values the coaching he received from his own parents—both in sports and in life. “I deeply admire my parents. They are exemplary humans who always put our needs ahead of theirs. Without their selflessness, I wouldn’t have come so far.”
Born and raised in Peoria as the youngest of three children, Bill is proud to raise his own family in central Illinois. He calls his wife, Stephanie “a constant source of strength in my life.” With their two young boys, they love to travel and camp.

Bill’s favorite spot in central Illinois is a toss-up between the trails of Robinson Park or Peoria’s Warehouse District. “I love how it has been revitalized with an eclectic mix of shops and restaurants.” It’s yet another part of Peoria that has been improved by Bill’s hard work.
