WTVP Facilitates COVID-19 Town Hall with Local Broadcasters

A live, primetime town hall event, Central Illinois United: A COVID-19 Town Hall, will be simulcast from WTVP’s studio from 7 – 8 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020. All Central Illinois television broadcast stations will participate.

The event will include medical and health officials, along with other local leaders, to provide clear and concise information as Central Illinois and the nation face the COVID-19 pandemic. WTVP will be represented by H Wayne Wilson, host of the station’s At Issue public affairs program. Viewers will be encouraged to submit questions and get answers they need to know.

“The public always comes first with WTVP-PBS, and that is more important now than ever,” said WTVP President and CEO, Lesley Matuszak. “We are pleased to be able to contribute our resources and facilities to make sure that the people of Central Illinois get the news and information they need to say safe and healthy.”

The one-hour program will be streamed live on WTVP’s Facebook Live at https://www.facebook.com/wtvp.org/ and on the WTVP website at https://www.wtvp.org/covid19.

The March 27 simulcast is just part of WTVP’s ongoing response to COVID-19. The station continues to make its studio available to area experts to record discussions on a variety of topics. WTVP has also expand At Issue to a live, 60-minute format each week to address the ongoing situation.

Seven local channels are participating in the March 27 simulcast: WTVP (PBS), WEEK (NBC), HOI ABC, WMBD (CBS), WYZZ (FOX), The CW and WAOE (MyNetwork).
