New York City Ballet’s classic staging of Coppélia was created by Balanchine and Alexandra Danilova in 1974. Considered one of the greatest comic ballets of the 19th century, it is the tale of a budding romance between two villagers and the curious workings of their neighbor: the mad inventor Dr. Coppélius.
