And the 2012 Winners are...

WTVP is Proud to Announce 12 Winners and 1 Honorable Mention in the 2012 Local PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest.

Jake the rainbow lost his colors! A book-loving dolphin is not just a fish out of water. An evil emperor’s dastardly plans are thwarted by a bit of kindness. Inspired by her teacher, a young girl has her eyes opened to the wonders and variety of the animal kingdom. These are just a few of the award-winning stories written by Central Illinois students for WTVP’s "PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest."

The station is pleased to announce the following winners and their stories. Click on the book cover to read each story.

2012 Honorable Mention

The first-place stories have advanced on to the national competition where they are competing against winners from other PBS stations across the country for fabulous prizes including tablet computers and e-readers. National winners will be announced this summer.

Local winners and their families were treated to a party in the WTVP Studio where they received prizes including books, writing journals and a special t-shirt announcing them as a writing super hero. Every entrant received an official Certificate of Achievement.

WTVP congratulates all our entrants for their superb stories. And thanks Ms. Benson at Little Friends Learning Center in Peoria, Ms. McCarthy at Blessed Sacrament in Morton, Ms. Nester and Ms. Saurez at Holy Family School in Peoria, Ms. Lawless at Ridgeview Elementary, and Ms. Barber at Metamora Grade School for encouraging their students in their writing and introducing them to our contest.

And whether you enter with a class or on your own, be sure to watch next winter for another contest. We’re looking forward to reading your story!
